Post Avis wants you to Rent-A-Vette

We've had to endure our fair share of craptacular rental whips during our travels (Faux carbon fiber trim in a minivan? Seriously Dodge?), but making the trek from airport to hotel to auto show and back could be a bit more bearable behind the wheel of a new Corvette. That's exactly what Avis is doing, by adding the 430-hp 6.2-liter V8 convertible 'Vette to its line of "Cool Collection" cars. While the $164.99 daily rental price isn't too hard to swallow, the drop-top Corvette's availability will be limited to the warm climes of Arizona, California, Florida and, appropriately, Las Vegas. If there aren't any more Shelby GT-Hs available through Hertz, we think we might have found our next ride for the LA Auto Show or SEMA.

Manual or slushbox?

$160 is a steal if that includes insurance.

If it's a 6-speed it would be a killer deal for track days

Slushbox only, I bet We rented one last time we went to PHX from Hertz. I don't recall it costing anywhere near $160/day, though. We had the thing for a week, it was way less than $160/day including the insurance. That's nuts!

My buddy and I rented one last year on one of our trips to Vegas. It was MUCH less money then taking a cab to the golf course.

I rented one in Phoenix when we went to hike the Seven Summits of Phoenix. Let me just say, don't ever buy a red vert Vette out of Phoenix from Hertz. He took that thing up to Perralta Canyon (a dirt road with lots of washouts) and got the strangest looks from all the pickups and SUVS we passed. It was covered in dust when we got up there. Looked like a Dakar race car.

TBOS2K is an unknown quantity at this point
Sounds like a good time. What would the mileage limit be on a rental like that?
