I think it looks like its kinda turning into a joke and 90% of the owners in those pic just look like deusche bags, sorry but someone had to say it. what happened to enjoying nice cars and having fun driving them, now its about how much money you have, how rediculous you can look and who you know....gay

SSC Ultimate Aero. American made, claimed to be faster in a straight line than a Veyron. Of which there is a couple in the Gumball field, so maybe we'll get that one settled.
And yes, the douchebaggery seems to be strong with some of these people...
ETA Bugatti content, for those who might desire it. Blatantly ripped off of Autoblog.com.

I did it in 2005 in my f355. it was a pretty amazing experience. there was already a lot of heat from the authorities, i think it was a problem in subsequent years. it was also much much cheaper then.

Thanks for mentioning that. The spirit of the original Cannonball Run from which this is based has been long since forgotten. I'd much rather just get a few friends together and race across the country on my own without the need to look like a complete tool and draw attention to the fact that I'm clearly doing something illegal.
The best part was undoubtedly being on some motorway in the midlle of nowhere at the strangest part of the day and out of the blue an slr or enzo or gt2 appears and speeds past you. Or driving for an hour flat out alone on a deserted croatian, italian, hungarian or german motorway. there were so many incredible motoring moments which had I been driving with a bunch of friends along a route that i had planned myself would simply not have happened. The people may have been mostly made up of douches, but the cars were far from douchee.
the enormous spectacle may have been a problem in terms of law enforcement (i got two tickets), but driving through london with more than 100,000 people lining the streets and arriving in vienna completely inundated with people, was despite my worst fear... actually unbelievably awesome.
driving with friends is great, but there will rarely be as many cars, spectators, distances, hours or intensity.
count me in if you think you can organise a few friends to get together a drive across the country with the same level of fun.
