Random sightings

Last weekend I went riding with a bud and we saw this crazy old buggy pull into a gas station. We both stopped wanting to go check it out. Turns out it was Jay Leno. He was driving a 1907 White steam powered car. He was filling it with water, not gas.

cool plate

exposed piston

that's not a radiator, it's some kind of steam capturing thingy so it can reuse the water.

He's such a nice guy in person - I was at a friend's place with my uncle a couple of months ago and he drove by and stopped for a chat in his R8 when he saw us messing with my uncle's MCS as we had just smashed the lower front spoiler over a bump and were trying to pull it out.

He said he loved the MCS and when we asked him about the R8 he told us Audi had given it to him for a year with a smile and said he wasn't all that impressed with it.

I represented Jay Leno for over 4-years as part of a team of attorneys at my former law firm. He is genuinely one of the nicest people ever. He is always willing to sit and talk.

He loves that steam-powered car and is always bragging about it! That is actually one of the better spots I can think of. Great job.

I've seen him at the RS maybe 4 or 5 times and he has never been anything but overly friendly with everyone. Great guy. I really didn't want to be an d!ck and impose on the guy but he seemed pretty friendly even if he was eager to get it filled and be on his way.

Amazing. I wonder what the range is with a full tank of water. Didn't think it would develop enough power to be usable in a carriage.

Here is the White on Jay's Garage: Jay Leno's Garage

He also has an 1832 steam engine and 2 1906 and a 1925 steamer as well.

He said 140 miles. He said the advantage of that one is that it reuses the water so it goes further.
