I lived in Dubai (well Sharjah technically) for 15 years, this definitely looks like a new thing, the crazy driving has always been part of the culture over there. I'm glad motorcycle usage has dropped down over there because it used to be a weekly incident of young guys killing themselves in CBR900's and 1200's that were turbo'd out or with an insane shot of nitrous.

That being said, if you have a chance to visit the country, go for it, just avoid the Taxi drivers, they're insane!
