Top Gear Australia in trouble for damaging cars
Australia gave us the word "hoon," and the Aussie version of Top Gear apparently features three of them in presenters Charlie Cox, Warren Brown, and Steve Pizzati. The trio's habit of hooning for local audiences has seen them rack up a repair bill close to $AUS 200,000 for the cars they've damaged during taping – a bill to be paid by the automakers, thank you very much, for a show that is not yet racking up the ratings. Carmakers, not surprisingly, aren't thrilled about it, with one one likening the show to an automotive version of Jackass. TG Australia is coming around again for a second season, which might be difficult if carmakers end up gathering behind one manufacturer's rather blunt declaration: "They will encounter a lot of shut doors."

Hi,
The show is completely insufferable. I hope for all your sakes that the US version is better.
Even Top Gear Australia magazine printed a large article removing themselves from the horrible, horrible TV show.
Cheers,
Nik

Hi,
SBS is our ethnic broadcasting station here in Australia - we have 5 free to air channels in Oz. SBS has only just recently even had adverts on the channel. It is the channel that brought Top Gear to Australia - dominating the timeslot for the first time in the history of the channel.
I s'pose they thought this would be a fantastic idea - BBC apparently thought it was worth franchising the show, in the same way Idol, Big Brother etc. has managed to plague almost every country on the globe.
The term 'epic fail' is thrown around a lot on the internet these days, but this time it really does fit.
For interest sake, anyone that's seen the show might remember the 'car lawn bowls' in which brand new Holden (GM) Astra's of various model were rolled off a ramp, and basically into each other to get closest to an inflatable jack. This is apparently where the upset began.
Add that to the fact it is the lowest rating show in its timeslot, all equals unhappy car manufacturers who obviously thought this would be some great advertising.
I would love to read a Clarkson article about TopGear Australia. Honestly.
Cheers,
Nik
