Post Clarion Introduces New 3D Portable Navigation Unit (UK)

In today's world of transport, using a map instead of a navigation unit is like using a typewriter instead of word processor software. Now Clarion has made portable navigation even more effective with their MAP780 (Europe) and MAP680 (UK & Ireland) models which are the first to map buildings, landmarks and show elevation changes in 3D. Also, additional details such as comprehensive lane information can really help drivers anticipate where to go in those congested multilane situations.

In an effort to avoid obstructing the view of upcoming intersections, buildings close to the driver or those in the immediate foreground appear as see-through while buildings in the background are fully viewable. This allows the driver to use them as points of reference in the distance.

Both portable navigation devices also use a digital elevation model to render in 3D the height and depth of features, such as hills and mountains while you drive.

Bluetooth is not a first for PNDs, however, these units are the first to display SMS messages on screen in addition to touch-screen access to a paired phone or PDA. Audio streaming (A2DP) and MP3/WMA playback is also possible via a built-in music player.

OK, that's pretty cool. I love my Garmin when I'm out of town (the Porsche Nav works fine, but really, it's pretty limited compared to the aftermarket stuff), but this new 3D shite looks da bomb!! Just another toy I'm gonna have to get
