3d Blueray Players

Quick question... Just picked up a 55" Samsung 9000 series LED 3D TV... While on the "hunt" for my TV I spoke to a few sales reps and some of them were telling me that with the 9000 model (or any high end samsung) that you do not NEED a 3D player to watch 3D blueray movies... Is this true? Can I just put a 3D dvd into my existing Blueray player and let it "upconvert" it? How will this effect the quality?

Thanks in advance for any help given

In order to watch the movie in actual 3d, you do need a 3d player. A standalone bluray player won't upconvert a 3d movie just because you have the 3DTV. By the way, the Samsung 9000 is a badass tv...

Yes, you do need a Blu Ray player capable of playing 3D Blu Rays. I use my PS3 for 3D Blu Rays and it works well.

Edit: I misread your question. I have heard that there are some sets that can convert content to 3D. I'm not sure what the difference in quality is but I assume there would be a difference.

Ok, next question... Which 3D player to get? Also glasses? 9000 isn't Bluetooth, so need 2010 model.

Any reasone why you chose the 9000 over the newer 8000D series? I'm diein waiting for the 65" D8000 to come out in July.

3/8's of an inch, stainless trim and the fact that I got a CRAZY deal on it are the main reasons.... New 8000D is an awesome TV and was looking hard at buying it, just couldn't pass this one up... The technology is moving so fast, paying 4k for something new just seemed tough. I think we are going to see leaps and bounds over the next 12-18 months.

Oh and the remote is Saaaaaweet! Like a damn iPhone

Thought about that but call me queer, I like to "match" my components when I can. also I love my xbox so much I would never use the PS3 for it's gaming capabilities.

Who knows though, if samsung's don't blow me away I may do that.

Queer,

Is that the one that has a tv on the remote? That thing is nice. Glad you got your employee discount.

I got the samsung 8000series with package deal..3d bluray and glasses. Honestly I never watch 3d. It gave me headaches. I got this tv for the premier 2d pic...240hz. Loving it....although now I'm jonesing for their new "edgeless" model. It never ends.....

.
