So over the weekend we bought SIM 3 and installed it on our IBM T42p, which is now semi retired for mostly TV web surfing and gaming use. It runs fine for a while, then it goes into thermal shutdown.

Tried installing it on the T61p, runs 1920X1200 resolution with full detail on all settings beautifully for an hour, then also, thermal shutdown.

I searched and found these two laptop coolers, and was wondering if you guys have ever used one of these. Or if there is a better one out there?

It's a cooler and has speakers integrated.

 

I got this one over the weekend Amazon.com: Targus Lap Chill Mat AWE55US (Black with Gray): Electronics

It does the job against thermal shutdown and it is comfortable when I decide to use it on my lap.

 

Bump.

So the thermal shutdown problem was because the CPU fan in my T61p was toast.

Replaced the fan, and I could play SIMS without the bottom fan thingie.
