Droid X
Is anyone planning on getting one ? Ive heard that they are not hackable so that is making me think twice. The whole android phone idea as i understood it to be was a phone which the user/owner can modify and change at their leisure, i guess verizon/motorola dont feel the same way.
Edit* Im not 100% educated on the phone just yet so dont hold me to every word i say.

I believe you can hack (techie speak - root) the incredible so you can keep updating the software to keep it going for quite some time.*edit* Update the software before whichever phone carrier you have decides to put an update out*edit* Someone posted an article about this new * e-fuse * technology incorporated into the X.
They dont want you to hack the phone so you have to pay to use wi-fi among other things as well as not be able to tether it to your laptop.
Who knows, when and if i get a chance to read up on it tonight i'll post more info about it here.

Droid X actually self-destructs if you try to mod it More about the E-fuse and how the phone will actually self destruct.

I've been doing my research on the X vs the upcoming Droid 2 and the supersecret 2Ghz processor Droid that is supposed to drop early next year. I will probably get the X for now....and the efuse thing is a non-starter - most consumers don't realize that the original Droid had the "efuse" function also and that phone has been hacked and shredded like a julienne salad. As long as there are guys that will root, overclock or load custom roms onto their android phones, then there will always be mods. The key is that many of the developers who work on the OS and the hardware are an active part of the modding community, so no worries!

nothing solid on the 2Ghz phone yet, infact nothing except the aforementioned processor speed and a few spec rumors: gyroscope, nvidia graphics processor, flash 10.1, 720p video out, +5mp camera. The CEO of motorola said they planned to release it by the end of the year but it could be vaporware for now. In the meantime i'm getting my X this coming weekend and i might overclock it to 1.5 or 1.75Ghz which should be snappy enough to keep pace with the new phones in the pipeline for now
