PAL to NTSC converters

A friend is moving to Germany this summer and wants to take his 47" HDTV with him. He is asking about PAL to NTSC converters that will keep the signal quality intact.

Any recommendations?

Surely the best option is to buy a 30 Euro 'freeview' box to recieve free to air TV? HDMI is pure digital and doesn't have a signal type like PAL/NTSC right?

Same with cable/satellite. They just output HDMI signals.

I could be wrong, but thats how I understand it.

The bigger issue is the massive power converter box he's going to need to run the TV to drop from 220V to 120V for the TV....

"Most" electronics these days are already set to power off of 110-240 V AC and 50-60Hz for that very reason. I'll have him check into the Freeview box.
