Wireless Help

I set up my family's wireless internet a few months back when I purchased my MacBook. I enjoyed it quite well. Fast forward to Sunday, my parents come back from vacation.

My Mother breaks out her brand new HP laptop. It immediately takes down the network. She couldn't access it, I couldn't access it. Only the desktop could, because it's hardwired to the modem. After countless tries to fix it, I reset the wireless router. It works for the meantime, I can access the wireless network.

Turns out my Mother's new laptop needed some drivers for her to use the wireless network. Get those installed, she can use the wireless network. Now here's the problem.

When she accesses the network, it immediately boots me off of it. Changes the password, and she is the only one who can use it.

What can I do here?

Do I need a new router? Can I change things within the router?

PS, I'm going stir crazy with out my XBox live too!

^what kind of router do you have? Most of them (well probably all of them these days) have a default IP address that you can type into the address bar on your internet browser. From there you can check the settings and setup things like a password and limit on the number of connections.

I have a linksys and i know the default ip is 192.168.1.1. name/password is admin/admin

I have the Cisco/Linksys basic unit from Best Buy.

I will try your solution and see what I can come up with.
