Look like Toshiba gave up on HD-DVD.

So have NetFlix, Blockbuster, and Wal-Mart.
I think the war is over...or at least close with Blu-ray as the victor.

I am a believer in Blue-Ray love my Panasonic BR player, looks incredible on my 58" Panasonic 1080P Plasma better then the movie theater in my opinion. Oh.. but you have to have the sound system to compliment, Blue-Ray FTW!

It swayed to Blu-Ray some time ago... I have acquired a fairly good movie collection already. My Sony Blu-Ray player does a really good job on normal DVD's too.

It's their revenge for losing on BetaMax.

Nick is an unknown quantity at this point
I believe Blu-Ray won for a very simple reason.

People who go and spend thousands on a home theatre/HD plasma etc won't mind spending a couple dollars more for a better quality format. And those who adopt the new technology sooner are generally more cashed up hence the tie back to home theatres etc.

history does not agree with you - Beta was a better format than VHS, Amiga was the best home computer bar none back in the day, etc. quality does not guarantee success.

these things are far too complicated to really understand - they just happen.
