Help...suggestions for sound canceling headphones

Okay guys, I'm about to lose it with all the office construction going on right now. Falling short of sticking tampons in my friggin ears and placing my head underwater, which would not be productive near electronics, I need advice on sound canceling headphones. I have zero experience with them, and I've seen a ton of Bose and others brands such as Sony enter the market. I do not want any ear bud style since I already have my Shures for that. Much appreciated for the feedback.

I have used the Bose Quiet Comfort 2 (over the ear) on commercial airlines, in the office when things just get too crazy, etc. HIGHLY recommend them. I haven't tried the QC3 (the on-ear version) but since it does not cup around the ear i can't imagine it's total noise reduction (passive dB reduction + active cancellation) is as good as the QC2.

In fact, my QC2s convinced me to spend the money for the Bose Aviation X headsets for my aircraft. No complaints whatsoever.

I can order you a pair of Sennheiser PXC450's if you are interested.

Gobbles, thanks for your input. Are the Bose really worth it? I have never been impressed with Bose products, but are these SC headphones different?

Michael, let me take a look at the Sennheiser you recommended; I know nothing about them. Maybe you can give a quick review?

I agree with you on the general Bose reputation, but in my opinion they are worth it. These noise canceling and the aviation headsets are the only Bose products I own.

I've always been satisfied with the bose headphones when traveling on planes. I don't know where you are located in Texas, but you could always stop by pne of their retail locations. I believe most Apple stores have them to try on and use with the iPod.

I have Bose QC2 as well. I only use them when I fly so I can't vouch for cancellation of construction-type noises, but they work really well for air travel. They have great sound reproduction as well. Good bass and treble for music. Not the best, but certainly good enough for me.

I've got the Bose QC2's as well and love them. I've used them while flying and on something as pedestrian as cutting the grass... I'm very pleased with them.

BUT, the Bose works extremely well IMHO, but imagine what Michael @ Soundearphones will get for ya...

Guys, I really appreciate the input. I'll go check the Bose out as well as look up what Michael suggested.
