Alfa Romeo’s potent 8C Competizione is already a rare model – with the Italian automaker only producing 500 examples in both coupe and cabrio forms – but an even more exclusive version of the 8C is already in the works. If the higher-performance special-edition of the 8C ultimately gets the green light, Alfa will likely only produce 100 units of the car.

According to AutoTelegraff, Alfa CEO Luca de Meo is pushing hard for a high-performance GTA variant of the 8C, although Alfa has yet to give the project the thumbs up.

The GTA model would be a lighter version of the 8C, with a boost in power to the car’s 450 horsepower V8 – a recipe for a bonafide supercar. Alfa recently confirmed the revival of its performance GTA nameplate for an upcoming version of the company’s Mi.To.

No word if the GTA treatment would be reserved for the coupe or would be also offered on the 8C drop top – which is slated for production later this year.

 

Woah! This is great news. From the reviews I've read about the 8C, it's already a quick car, but I always thought it needed a bit more power to justify the price tag it carried.
