Edo Pushes 2010 Ferrari California to 500-hp Level; Hits 60 mph in 3.9 sec
#1

Maranello is diligently churning out its newest 2010 Ferrari California for worldwide delivery, while one of its most notable tuners, Edo Competition, is implementing its latest performance regimen on a handful already in some owners' garages.
Although relatively simple on paper, the enhancement goodies are said to produce some significant power output gains. To do so, Edo's engineers tack on a sport catalyst system to the mightly 4.3L V-8 (454-hp/358 lb-ft) that allows for its fumes to run more freely, while a reprogrammed ECU ensures total systematic unity. Together, the combo pushes power to a grand total of 500-hp and 368 lb-ft of torque.
Punch the right-foot pedal and the California by Edo hits a claimed 60 mph in 3.9 sec and tops out at 196 mph -- or slightly better than stock (4.0 sec, 193 mph). Every cavallino is still delegated to the tarmac via an all-new seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Aesthetically, the car remains largely the same, as none of the sheetmetal is touched by the German tuner. Each corner receives bigger 21-in. forged alloys wrapped in equally striking 255/30 ZR 21 front and 295/25 ZR 21 rear rubber.

The California's handling character is revised thanks to a customer coilover system by KW Suspension. Each shock can be fully adjusted to accommodate a variety of road situations and driver preferences. How exactly this could improve the impressive stock suspension, we're still wondering. But it does drop the sports car 1.4-in. for a more aggressive (and welcomed) demeanor. Since it's still so young on the market, expect to see a variety of Ferrari tuners do their thing to the $200,000-plus grand tourer. Edo did not announce pricing
