Total Auto Wash is a designed specifically for this purpose and is safe to use on rubber, plastic, glass, metal surfaces and paintwork. (Caution . . . it will remove wax). Zymol Vinyl, in a spray bottle, is the best product I've found for the final finish in the engine compartment. It works well on hoses, plastic, satin painted metal and virtually every surface in the engine compartment. It doesn't take much and provides a great satin finish. 303 Protectant can also be used but tends to leave some surfaces too shiny. When restoring older cars with woven fabric covering old rubber hoses Zymol Vinyl can restore pliability and color to the hoses and leave a great, clean original look.
