Review: Promobile Detail in Orange County Situation:
We have a Porsche 997 Turbo that we want a in showroom condition for several auto shows and magazine feature shoots. We basically had very stringent requirements for the finish of the vehicle is a critical component to the execution of the vehicle’s cosmetics.
Problem:
During rapid prototyping stages and local vehicle car washes we had accumulated heavy swirling throughout the top layer of the clear coat on all body panels. We also had special automotive clear film throughout the front end of the vehicle which also exhibited heavy swirls and scratches.
After having gone through a long list of local auto detailers we were finally referred to a company called Pro mobile Auto detail by several local car enthusiasts and shops.
Pro Mobile Auto Detail:
Mike Tawekjian founder of Pro Mobile Auto Detail came to inspect the vehicle himself 1 week after making an appointment. Upon 30 minutes of detail inspection Mike informed us of the work that needed to be done which would be done in several stages throughout am intensive 3 day treatment process. Mike was extremely thorough in his explanation of the process and what compounds and products needed to achieve the desired results.
Process starts:
1st the vehicle is thoroughly rinsed with DI water solution to avoid any water spots.
2nd A special foam solution is applied hand free to avoid further swirls marks. This special foam soap absorbed all the dirt and debris from the surface, a very minimal contact with the paint.
Once the soap solution was removed with the DI water the vehicle was dried with a air blower in between any tight gaps and in throughout out the 3-piece forged wheels which typically trap some excess water between the barrels and the center. The vehicle was finally patted down with a micro fiber towel to ensure all surfaces were completely dried off.
The next step was polishing and buffing of all clear coat and clear film surfaces. Mike had taken out a special paint measuring device that calculated the thickness of the paint on each of the painted body panels. He explained that this was very critical due to the fact that if a clear coat on a certain body panel was already too thin that it would not be difficult to burn through the clear coat and into the actual paint and primer. After careful inspection of all panels Mike applied a 3 step polishing process to each panel to remove the artificial swirls and scratches. This intense polishing process took approximately 15 hours as he was going from panel to panel and re-inspecting each of the panels to see if any spots were missed under direct sunlight and fluorescent lighting environments.
Mike also took the time to disassemble the V-RT carbon fiber wing assembly to color sand each of the tight surfaces by using 3 deferent grade of sanding process, to ensure a smooth flat glossy surface. Mike had informed us that he has many years of experience dealing with carbon fiber pieces and his experience clearly showed when he was finished with the carbon fiber wing blade and gloss black wing end plates.
Every 24 hour, mike Applied a special Glaze of natural 61% carnuba based wax. The final results in this wax was indeed extremely impressive as it gave the paint an incredible level of depth, clarity and shine. Mike explained that the amount of carnuba content helped protect the paint surfaces against harmful UV rays as the carnuba adds a very tough and hard layer of protection on top of the paint and that the wax would last 6 months to a year over conventional waxes and polishes that would be easily be stripped away with a few car washes.
We will be recommending all of our clients in the southern california area to use Mike from Promobile Detail.
