Mach 1

Had these pics on that other site, but the "Classic Muscle" threads are a little slow, so here they are again.

After putting the motor back together using a new combination, I never quite felt like it was running as strong as it should've been. Messed with carburetion and timing for months. No change. Last weekend, I degreed the cam at 4 degrees advanced as opposed to straight up and then re-tuned. Perfect! The Cleveland is a high RPM motor, which is cool. It comes out of the hole hard without going up in smoke. Then, at about 2000 rpms the power comes on and it pulls hard. It's like a different car. Have to wait till my local track opens to get some numbers, but it really feels respectable.

Thank you for sharing with us pictures of your pristine and very retro 70's Mach 1, I really like how you invested lots of time on this car making it solid and clean as if it was built just yesterday. A friend of a friend of mine has a Red Mach 1 and he is always in trouble getting the papers done for the MOT annually, the factory exhaust setup is very loud and the Police always think it is modified.

For the state it is in it catches up with 300 C SRT8's lately and that is not bad for a heavy car.

Refreshing to see a muscle car from that era wich hasn't been blinged out with ridiculous wheels and stuff. It's a great looking machine!

What kind of #'s does it put down?

Thanks for the compliments, guys. It's one of those love it or hate it cars. I built a big bodied Mustang because it was something different. I chose this one because of its period color combination. A lot of people think it's ugly as hell.

I don't know. I just got the motor running right. Feels like high 12s/low 13s, but I may never know for sure. I got a call today from a classic Mustang restorer in PA. He's got a client who really wants it. If the numbers work out right, it'll be sold.

I'll miss it like crazy, but if the money's right I have other projects to complete.
