There are two kinds of guys. Which one are you?
I just bought my first suit and came across this quote my friend sent me haha.
"There are two kinds of guys. The first wears suits every day. The second only pulls out his suit for weddings and funerals". Hahaha, I thought that was great since I bought this suit for a wedding this weekend.
I'm guessing most of you guys are the former, but I'm curious.

Personally? I much prefer the former over the latter. Sadly, as a student, I'm partially limited in terms of opportunities (but at least I can rock the odd coats often -- the joy of being in the fringier departments, for the most part).
That said, I don't get why suits have such a poor reputation here in the US (stuffy, etc.); it's as though some people would rather sacrifice a family member than don a suit, even at funerals (and, boy, have I seen some downright shameful things with the family business).
Such a shame .

I never wear a suit; less than once a year, for sure, and black tie never. I no longer go to charitable dinners / functions, avoid weddings and funerals, and generally stay away from groups of larger than 4 people. Jeans or shorts and a T-Shirt, every day.

I wear a suit. For work, only the 4-8 days a year I'm in a "real" office, either in NYC or in New Orleans. Try getting taken seriously in midtown Manhattan in jeans. Try getting into a good restaurant in New Orleans in a tank top. Neither one gonna happen.
In CA nobody wears suits, not even my lawyer.
A good restaurant should have a minimum dress code beyond "no shoes no shirt no service".

i'm glad to call you a friend - i'm living forever!
i like wearing suits, hate shorts, but you like a fool wearing a suit in SF - even to an interview. i think the only place people wear a suit in SF area is to the French Laundry and/or weddings of stuck-up old-money WASPy friends.
