Porsche Working on New Pajun Sedan and Shooting Brake Model

Famously breaking the mold with the Cayenne, Panamera, and soon to come Macan CUV, the rumors are flying about that Porsche is mulling over developing a smaller sedan along with a possible shooting brake variant. Purists are dying a little inside, this we are aware.

The hard-to-swallow news comes Autobild, which says the new car is named Pajun, the name we expected the Macan to have) and is expected to hit the market by 2017. The sedan, code-named Pajun, would expand Porsche's portfolio to six model lines and compete with the Mercedes-Benz E class and CLS coupe models.

Porsche spokesman Hans-Gerd Bode told Reuters there were many ideas for a sixth model but decisions had not been taken.

CEO Matthias Mueller has said that Porsche may expand its model lines to seven from four to help achieve its goal of doubling annual sales to about 200,000 by 2018.

The German publication reported that Porsche would offer the Pajun in both nothchback and Shooting Brake (estate) body styles with a choice of six-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines. The Pajun will cost between 65,000 euros ($84,100) and 100,000 euros, the magazine said.

Please don't make this one ugly! Golden opportunity to rectify Panamera demerits.

And the brand dilution ensues even further. Porsche is seeming less and less like a sportscar company and more and more like a luxury brand that makes a few sports cars.

Although that rendering does look awesome.

So pointless. They should leave the station wagon business to Volvo and stick to what they're best at.

Good news for me! I've never owned a station wagon and I don't want to buy a Volvo.
