They have a tremendous sales goals for the upcoming years, they spending money to sell more existing models will provide marginal returns as opposed to coming out with new models which reach new segments...
I agree that it would be awesome if they just stuck to their core products but they're a publicly traded company and unfortunately this is just what happens...
In a lot of ways, I don't think Porsche is deviating far from what they do best...the majority of what they produce are still sports cars and they aren't stopping supercar development (918). Also, their models always come in some great variants and are usually at the top of their category. I don't think they've really missed the mark yet. At least they're not like some other big OEMs who can canceling their halo cars for electric boxes - they're growing their company while staying true to their values and actually incorporating green technology in a way where it's exciting...

If the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 or 918 aren't exotic enough for you then Porsche will never produce a car you like. They're not going to ever have Lamborghini or Ferrari type styling...
