Porsche World Roadshow 2010 | Kuwait

I'm back.

I was invited earlier this week to participate in the Porsche World Roadshow as it was passing through Kuwait and needless to say, I jumped on the offer. This was my first time attending an event of the sort, so I was both curious and excited. They had two sessions planned every day for one week, of which we could choose one: a morning session from 8:30 to 2:30 and an evening session from 3:30 to 8:30. Samples from all five models were present, with everything from a Boxster S to a Cayenne Turbo available. I decided on the evening session on December 9.

The planned route of the Roadshow was to explore a new stretch of highway that opened up to the west of Kuwait City stretching around Kuwait Bay and toward the north, referred to as the Subiya Expressway. I've never driven that stretch before tonight but I had heard that it's a wide, smooth and relatively straight new road [as yet devoid of brutal Kuwaiti potholes].

Following the necessary safety briefings and paperwork, we were handed keys to cars and the growls of the engines filled the air. I started off in a Panamera 4S and throughout the evening by way of multiple stops, we switched cars and followed one another in an organized convoy led and tailed
by two professionals from Porsche Leipzig. Here's a rundown of our layout and my experience with each of them:

Boxster Spyder [instructor]
Boxster S I presently own a Boxster S, so there were no surprises here. Beautiful car, excellent drive.
Cayman S Since the Cayman and the Boxster are essentially twins, the car didn't blow me out of the water but was engaging and wonderful nonetheless.
911 Carrera Cabriolet Ahh, where to begin? RWD and a droptop at 160 km/h - pure exhilaration. I was surprised at how subtly weighted this car felt compared to the other 911s; perhaps the added weight of the convertible mechanisms?
911 Carrera S My first experience with a RWD 911 [I've extensively driven a friend's Carrera 4S] and I loved it; the lower weight due to the absence of the four wheel drive was noted and this car just goes and goes!
911 Carrera 4S Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Bolted to the ground, poised and blazingly fast.
Panamera 4 My first go at a Panamera with a V6 mill, and I was a bit let down to be honest. While the car was fast in its own right, I expected it to be brisker in its acceleration. A bit of highway driving at higher speeds and I felt like the engine was a bit exasperated.
Panamera 4S The one that takes the cake. With 400 screaming horses under the sculpted hood and a sport exhaust system humming through the vehicle, this car blew me away in every possible sense. Your recommendations for this car in a previous thread proved to be helpful and so... correct.
Cayenne Slug. This car drove me mad at how un-fast it was. [Calling it 'slow' seems a bit of a stretch] Flooring the accelerator in other vehicles made the numbers jump on the speedo; in the Cayenne, it went '71... 72... 74... 75... 77...78... 80...' with noticeable pauses in between. Keeping up with the Panamera 4S and the convoy ahead was damn near impossible and for a strange reason, the Cayenne felt heavier when compared to its more powerful brethren. Not a favorite.
Cayenne S I loved this car; miles ahead of the Cayenne and full of power that you can actually use in real-world driving. Definitely a solid contender in the which-car-should-I-purchase game.
Cayenne Turbo Complete animal, and in a good way. Acceleration was surprisingly blistering in a vehicle of this size and without even feeling it, I was hurtling down the expressway at upwards of 200 km/h. Then again, this should be expected from a Turbo, no?
Cayenne Turbo [instructor]

Top three: Panamera 4S, Cayenne Turbo and Carrera 4S. These cars are hands-down mind-blowing; were my budget a little wider, I'd jump and splurge on a spectacularly-equipped Panamera 4S tonight before tomorrow.

Ramble over. Here's a photo of the event; pardon the iPhone quality, but this'll have to do until I upload the pictures from my DSLR [assuming anyone's interested in seeing more].

I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback.

Cheers!
