Well, you know where their target marketing is directed.
Had we ever had a daughter, she would have named Cayenne.
But Mo, Cajun is not Mexican. It is most unique blend of peoples native to the southeast (primarily Louisiana) U.S. Their culture, food, heritage, language and joie de vivre have an exclusivity that is much greater than the sum of their attributes. I've lived many places, but I experienced south Louisiana.

Cajun is just the project name. Doubtful it'll be called that. I just can't fathom having this on my showroom floor.
We're not Mercedes, or BMW or Audi. Not everyone should be driving a Porsche. Here in the United States we already have issues with the way we view cars. Mercedes came out with the C Class coupe, that car did miserably. And received lots of harsh comments from S Class and E Class owners. - Now, MB is on top again and getting cocky. They're releasing ANOTHER C Class Coupe.
Why? If your budget doesn't fit a lease on a new C Class, why not a nice CPO Mercedes as your first? Just look at BMW's 1 series if you need a refresher course on what not to do. 1 Series sales are pathetic. The car is priced wayyy to high and ppl in the US just make fun of the car.
Cayman sales are a joke as well. Great car, but priced wrong. If you're looking at a $60k Porsche as your 1st, you're more than likely to go get a CPO 997. It IS the 911 after all.
One of the motivations to choose a Porsche is the exclusivity and brand recognition it carries. It's just the truth. Sure Porsche's are great values- but the name brand IS a factor in the decision.
Making a less expensive SUV achieves what? A Porsche for the daughter? *great*.
They'll make them, and of course, I'll sell them to the best of my ability. But I don't see how this going to bode well for the Porsche brand over all. Knowing who you are is something I see Automakers falter on quite often. Porsche should not be attainable for everyone. They need to maintain that exclusivity. That mystery. To remain a brand that people will consistently dream about. Offering this less expensive SUV puts into a category (mentally) with the likes of MB, BMW or Audi. - Not that they aren't great automakers, clearly they are. But because Porsche is NOT them. Nor should they have any desire to BE like them. In any fashion.
Just my personal views. I still respect Porsche & Co. But I wish instead of hiding in the board room, most of the Exec's actually spent time on the front lines- IN the showroom, sitting shoulder to shoulder with the Sales Managers and Sales People.
Do this for ONE month. 1 month. And I think they'd learn a tremendous amount of valuable information about the Porsche client.

Come on you all knew this was coming. We already knew VW was slotting an entry model below the Boxster with a possible high feature 4 cylinder from the VW parts bin. READ: the engine that is in the Audio TT/S. I would love to see Porsche spend the money to develop a proper and modern four cylinder Boxster engine for this car.
I know most of us don't know it but with the icy-cold hand of VW on Porsche's sholder, Porsche is going to tales the 911 further up market. What this means i don't know exactly. Hope they put more time and higher guality materials into manufacturing the car. For all of us lets hope they don't just charge more money and say they are taking it up market that.
Final dont forget that the 2020 CAFE requirements are coming. So the more options in a manufacturers line-up the better.

I think this is a brilliant move by Porsche - to attract younger buyers. These are the buyers who will eventually move into their 911 and Panamera.
I have no problem with Porsche making a variety of cars and SUVs as long as they continue to perform better than their competitors.
I haven't visit other brands showroom for a long time.

* this is the same philosophy used by MB and BMW; it ASSUMES that they WANT car that is perceived as LESS of a vehicle as compared to it's siblings. Originally Posted by Targa Tim

And is completely WRONG.
Why not a sweet CPO Cayenne? What will it lease out as? If it's within $200/mo the client will hands down choose the Cayenne over the X,Y,Z suv.
BMW screwed the pooch with their X3 when it first came out. It cost nearly as much as the X5. uh huh, smart move. LOL Sales declined until they subsidized the leases to be more in line with the car.
Perceived value my friends. Will people buy the little suv? I'm sure there will be people who do. But then, it goes right to what I said earlier.

Well Chris, there are still a lot of people out there that like to buy brand new cars rather than CPO.
There is a big market for smaller SUV than Cayenne. People who will buy this new Cajun will not cross shop the Cayenne. They may want something smaller.
I can't argue about brand image or dilution of brand with you as you are in the business and definitely know more than me. But then I don't care about them either. Mercedes and BMW still do very well despite the huge range of models they offer.
For me as a customer, I will pay for good performance at a price that I can afford. Simple as that. Ferrari and Lambo has no brand dilution, but they don't do anything to me as I don't think their performance is worth the price. (Flame suit on)
If Cajun can perform better than X3, Q5, etc, and only cost slightly more, then Porsche has another winner.

No doubt the small SUV market (X3, GLK, Q5 etc) is the fastest growing segment. And of course, there are a lot of ppl who like 'new' over 'used'. However assuming they wont cross shop is highly inaccurate. We see it all the time.Originally Posted by Targa Tim

Ppl looking at X3, look at Cayenne, look at GLK, look at Lexus RX. All the time.
There is no use in my arguing it; it's already done. I'll still sell them, and I'm sure they'll be a hit- for a while anyways.
Thats life. LOL
Have you posted your new Cayenne yet Tim?
This will undoubtedly spark competition from Maserati, Mercedes, etc. Honestly I am excited for this car just for the competition that will undoubtedly come from it. It's great to see new vehicles being produced in an economy such as this.
