^ The Blu-Ray is worthless without a screen that will display 1080p resolution. It is only useful if you use the laptop like a Blu-Ray player and output the signal to a television with 1080p capability. So that is a bit of snake oil from Lenovo.

Most users are not particularly demanding when it comes to overall processor speed, multitasking, etc. But most people balk at a less than average screen.

I think you can do better.

You know, that resolution isn't terrible. But coupled with the Blu-Ray makes it look deceptive.

A 17" display should really be 1900 x 1200.

Look for a smaller display with 1600 x 900 without the worthless Blu-Ray and you will have a pretty nice unit.

How about this one? I like HP for user-friendly, bullet proof laptops.

HP Pavilion dv6 and dv6t Select Edition series | HP® Official Store

i bought a lenovo e420 for $500. it's got a i5 processor which runs cooler than the older intel processors. 4gb of ram was good enough for me and i can upgrade later. it's a 14" screen so it's still portable. shop at amazon. they have better deal and no tax.

toshiba also makes good laptops.

i'd stay away from acer, asus, dell, hp for reliability reasons.
