Porsche Cayman Facelift Spotted

The first testing session of the face-lifted Porsche Cayman was photographed by our trusty TS spies at the Nürburgring today. The 2016 Porsche Cayman is a product of a mid-life refresh that’s supposed to bring minor exterior and interior tweaks as well as a more substantial upgrade under its hood. It’s only a part of the effort made by Porsche to improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions across the entire lineup. Both the Cayman and the Boxster models are expected to receive new four-cylinder engines to replace their trademark six-cylinders, and today way the first time our man behind the camera was sure to hear the sound of a 4-pot flat.

Being a member of the Porsche family, the face-lifted Cayman doesn’t offer any spectacular changes of the exterior. Most of the changes are concentrated on its front end that now features a restyled bumper with new LED daytime running lights. Interestingly, the new headlights come in a different shape and not just different graphics, as it’s mostly the case with Porsche’s facelifts. The changes spotted on the rear end are a reshaped bumper as well as reshaped taillights and different graphics.

The engine department of the 2016 Porsche Cayman is still mostly a mystery. Apart from the official announcement of the new four-cylinders to debut in the Cayman 2016 model. However, it’s rumored that the German automaker is currently developing turbocharged boxer engines. A 1.6 and 2.0-liter four-cylinders should make the Cayman and Boxster models more efficient and eco-friendly than they’ve ever been. It’s expected that the top-of-the-range Cayman will be able to churn out more than 300 horsepower. As for the six-cylinder power-trains, it’s still not clear whether any updates could be expected for the 2016 model year.

The upgraded 2016 Cayman Coupe is likely to offer a new steering wheel design that features a rotary drive mode selector. Some of the new technology expected with the 2016 Porsche Cayman includes a brand new infotainment system, as well as some new driver-assistance systems.
