To everyone Super charging or turboing a Boxster

I hope you guy's who are doing super chargers and turbo's on your boxster do leak down test first. Let me tell you I just had one done on mine and it turned out to be bad bad numbers. What really bothers me is that the company who did the SC said they did a leak down test first. Well I have less then 5K miles on the car and what does this so called "Dr of Porsche" say...."Well it happens on all these motors they are inhartley weak."

Screw them i am done with them.
1st they took 1year and 18days on a project that their rep at the time Ben Wornall told me would take 3-4 months.

2nd They told me they fried my clutch and "I" needed to buy a new one. When in truth I know of someone that drove my car a week earlier who is a prominent member of Porsche said that their was nothing wrong with it.

3rd WAY over budget

4th I waited 1year and 18 days for these roto-molded tubes but when I got the car they were metal pipes bent to fit with a hammer. Yes I have pictures.

5th Never has ran right and when I ask questions I get vague answers. If I was them I would have been up here on the first flight, especially since I offered to fly them up first class and put them up at a hotel. That of course all on my coin.

My post on this topic was just deleated over on 6speed. I never named the tuner! However I know of many other people who have had a ton of trouble with this guy.
IE:
Jegs 996TT
RobMD 996TT
highats 996TT
Gary from BR SC'd 986

Let me just say he emailed me saying how human he was yada yada yada...I guess he keeps his good reputation through deleating post of those that have issues. Nice way of doing business if you ask me.

I can't see why you can't name the tuner.
Car boards are about sharing knowledge and experiences, both good and bad. When you start censoring forums because a certain tuner is a sponsor...well then you're going down the slippery slope.

Wow...that sucks. Its good that info like this is shared on the forum. Helps to prevent more unfair treatment from tuners.

Since we all can look at the links and determine it is me and my company in question here I thought I should probably chime in. Let me preface my post by saying I have been in contact with Josh and we have started to sort, concerns, issues and perceptions and I think we have gotten back to point that we both know what is going on and how things occurred the way they did. Many of Josh’s emails and phone calls to me were while he was working on his car, he is a pretty good wrench so our conversations were more of conformation for him rather than what we might do for someone that didn’t know a thing about cars. In time, this to him lead him to feel that we perhaps didn’t care when in reality his wrenching skills were eliminating his issues one at a time. These issues as most have known have been the AOS, 02s etc. No matter what is said in a situation like this it is always hard to see on a forum or email, the tone or intention of the statement. It is almost impossible as you the reader not to jump to a conclusion from a post like this. I will do my best however to explain some of these points.

Josh’s car was a beta car. At the time we took it in we believed that it would be 4 months tops based on the 2.5 kit. What we didn’t count on was the time delays from all the parties we had included to make this kit happen. Everything from the pipes to the programming ended up causing major delays. Aside from that the actual project, it required more work and design changes because of the difference in intakes, headers etc. All things which chewed time up with fabrication, fitment, then more fabbing, fitment testing, then to production, back on then back off and back to production to correct little issues that came up. All to be expected to one degree or another simply because this was a test bed, not a production model. Towards the end of the project we all agreed that we would hold off sending the car back to Josh so we could get the press time for the car. All of this was communicated and regardless became tiresome for Josh as the project dragged on.

After talking with Josh yesterday he did not realize that the clutch was slipping on the dyno. Running through the gears on the street would not cause the clutch to show issue, it had to be hot, which Bob never got it to that point. We made a few last runs on the dyno before shipping to ensure all was still well and that is when we noticed the car slipped under the inertia. Josh assumed we said it needed a clutch because it was stiff, not slipping.

Josh was charged cost of actual parts and no labor to help keep things in check. Because of the added components the cost did go up but we made sure we never made a cent from this deal. It was a test bed, not a profit center. He did us a favor by letting us build our kit on his car and in return he got a new product, press and all of it in reality below our cost labor free.

The way you make roto molded pipes is you make them from metal, mash, bend manipulate then bondo the pipe to make it look decent. That pipe is then sent to the foundry and they make the plastic version from that. This kit took 4 revisions of pipes. Each at a cost of 12K for the molds. It is not a cheap venture. Once they were done it took an additional 3 months to get them in production. This was sublet through another company which caused additional delays in the process. So while it sounds terrible we were banging on pipes with hammers, it was a test pipe used from production and all we had at the time to send the car back with. Josh now has the production pipes and has for a while. True, it took him asking us for him and that is my fault and I apologize for that. No excuse, he should have had them when they came into the building.

As I mentioned earlier, Josh can wrench and had been doing so on the car to deal with issues that are common in time with the Boxster in general. We knew he had a handle on most of the things he was tinkering with. After talking to him yesterday I realize we should have taken the approach of he doesn’t know anything and started from A-Z instead of doing what you do with a pal and saying, “yep, that’s it” Since the kit was well assorted out and he was wrenching I never felt the need to go up there. I felt he had a handle on it. We have since sold well over a hundred kits and other than install issues from other shops we have not had any problems. This is why we urged Josh to look else where since the same setup by that time had been sold and installed over 45 times with out issue and some of the people driving across country and using the cars as dedicated track cars.

So there you have it. Hopefully this helps sort some of the public questions I have gotten. As mentioned, Josh and I will continue to come up with better solutions and plans and get his car on the road. Many know me from the early days of various Porsche email list, some not at all. If you have questions concerns please feel free to contact me. Sorry for the long post.

I agree with all of what Stephen has stated in his post. Unfortunately there was a drop in communication from him to me and now the one that suffers is the car. I hope to resolve all of the issues with or without Stephens help. I appreciate his offer to help going forward. I respect many of his accomplishments and that is the main reason the car went there in the first place.
