What is Porsche's take on using other manufactures paint as a PTS? For example, if I wanted a Boxter in BMW Laguna Seca Blue or Dakar Yellow.

I just noticed an oddity in the US configurator. When you specify "paint to sample" the configurator does NOT show PSE on the performance tab. Can anybody explain why this might be or is it likely a configuration problem?

Mr Eduardo, not sure where the beef is coming from, but as a newcomer to forums looking for as much info as possible on the 981, you are by far the most interesting and informative so keep it coming! By the way, how would one protect the pebble leather from discoloring over time? It's the color of choice ( see the wow! Thread by cahuck) but scared on what it will look like in a year.

Reason why I am not posting anymore!

Rawn77:

I really don't know what Brobbins016 true issues were, but it might have something to do with the new OTL site and its rivalry with Teamspeed. Frankly, this has nothing to do with why I have stopped posting on my original thread.

The fact is that I wrote all of these posts from my own personal experiences with custom ordering (& buying) Porsches in recent years - e.g. a Paint to Sample 2007 'Signal Green' 997S and a 2012 'Aqua Blue' Spyder. Yet it came a point in the effort where I needed 'Porsche Exclusive" to inform me (so I could communicated to all of you) how they would handle options like deviating stitching & leather to sample in the new 981 and 991 models! So I asked them....

Instead of supplying me with the information, they told me they had NO time to answer these questions! A surprising response for someone who had been trying very hard to help them market their little known 'Porsche Exclusive' services in the United States, something most dealers don't know or care too much about! As of early September since starting this thread in late July, my 'Custom Ordering a 981/991, Porsche Exclusive and You' threads at Teamspeed, Rennlist and 6Speed had received over 20K individual views, a fantastic result for which Porsche Exclusive, PCNA & PAG should have been ecstatic! So I said f**k them & I stopped posting. In the case of 6Speed, I deleted all of my previous postings. I left them on Rennlist since I am a long-term member there. And as you may know, you can't delete any Teamspeed postings after a few hours! I have also cancelled my PTS 991 order with a US dealer. A bit of capitalist 'tough love', but I feel just fine about it. In fact I am now thinking of the revised (upcoming) MY2014 Audi R8!

By the way, automobile leathers have improved tremendously over the years. So I think you will be fine with the new 'Pebble Grey' leather, although I personally find it too light for my own taste. I am sure you can call Sascha Glaeser at his posh Rodeo Drive 'Porsche Exclusive' office and he will be happy to talk to you about it.

Great Thread and information. I am in the process of ordering 981 and considered Gulf Blue but dealer didn't know if it could be done, offered to find out and said $10-15K probably.'If around $5K than its not much of a premium over GT silver and I would order!
Having Dealer find out.
Saw the pics of a Gulf Bue with Roundels and manufacturer decals but that's not what I want, just Gulf Blue. I assume I will stay with Carrara Red Leather.-Dick

I am also considering 981 in Gulf Blue exterior. However, this colour is still not approved (at least, for the mid of December 2012). Initially, I contacted Porsche Exclusive Dept in August 2012 and asked them about "when GB will be finally approved ?" Porsche answered that it normally takes about 4 months, but since the request for GB was placed earlier, then it would take less time. OK, then I contacted them, second time, in the middle of this December. Unfortunately, GB was still under checking process, still not approved ... So, it seems that in reality, this approval process takes much much more time than expected ... If you have any news about GB - please, post your news here.

I don't think Gulf Blue is allowed because of the Gulf licensing if I remember correctly. You may be able to specify other colors that might be close like meissen blue, but I don't think Gulf is doable.

Who knows, we'll see ... Does anybody know - does Porsche accept (in principle) Paint To Sample request, if specifying another existing car/brand colour ? I mean, for example, say, Lamborghini colour Celeste Phoebe, paint code XXXX, etc. What is their general policy/attitude to such a requests ?

Yes, Porsche will accept PTS requests for paint colours used by other car manufacturers. I had a 987.1 Boxster S painted in Lamborghini Grigio Proteus.
