1st P car!
I am getting my first Porsche car from my father in law. Its a base 2007 black on sand beige Cayman. 5 speed manual. Simple, but awesome ride and glad to renew with a stick!!!
What are the 1st few things I should get done on the car?
Window tint is a must, so are clear side markers. MAJOR detailing also. Probably a new steering wheel as the standard wheel feels like a Cobalt steering vs my C63's....I like more thickness...
MAYBE new wheels.
What about mechanical changes? What can be done on that 2.7l while maintaining a reasonable budget? I mean reasonable vs the value of such a car.....
I think standard brakes are ok, but how expensive is it to upgrade and is it a good idea to upgrade in the 1st place? Btw, I dont plan on tracking the car.....yet.....
Bottom line, I love the ride and tranny, but I'd like to get a bit more ooouuumfffff from the flat 6
Thanks in advance.

Dude - slow down....
Tint and clear sidemarkers are good. Just leave the rest stock for a while. The great thing about base Caymans is that they can be driven hard, all the time, even on the street. It's not the fastest thing, but it is a LOT of fun. The brakes are plenty good, short of tons of laps on a track. For a little more punch, do the intake, exhaust, and a reflash. You won't get huge gains, but it should rev harder and give you a few more ponies. The base Cayman is not the platform to dump big money into unless you're going to swap in a GT3 engine or something.
Have fun with it and post some pics!!
FWIW I had a 2007 base Cayman as well.

Yeah, so much fun...i had a rear flat on my c63 (yeah, i know, how bizzare!!!!) and he gave me his 06 Vette for a few days and the cayman for a day...wow...so much fun that cayman....much more than my 63...except for the sound!
Thanks, intake and exhaust are the 1st things i had on my mind....I think $2-3-4K is plenty to dump into such a car.

sounds stupid, but I´d save the mod money and trade it in for a Cayman S '(if that doesn`t hurt his feelins
)
sure the Cayman is the best handling Pcar next to the GT cars but you`ll always lust for a lil bit more power with the base Cayman

I'd found a beautifully spec'd new base model, and jut wondered what it would take to up the power.
Did some searching on this out of curiosity, and found an answer on Planet-9
While slipping a more powerful motor in might be a rather "simple" mechanical endeavor you'd play hell getting anything to work.
For some reason, Porsche decided to install different chassis wiring harnesses in the CS & CR, they both use a Seimens harness, which also works with a 3.8 for the conversion.
However the 2.9L 987.2 is not a DFI car and it still runs the Bosch ME 7.8 engine management system.
Following that logic, I'd imagine 987.1 would use a similar Bosch system.
Enjoy the car

Thats what I would do
