Exclamation Porsche Cayman Turbo Returns to the Ring?

Wearing Ludwigsburg license plates, which indicates an official Porsche AG, car BTG spotted this Porsche Cayman doing some hot laps. What was interesting was not it's appearance but rather its sound. BTG photographer gives an account of hearing the distinct sound of a turbo engine as this Cayman flew past.

BTG states they have seen a similar Cayman prototype making the same noise a year ago, but it's back. A turbo charged Cayman making somewhere in the neighborhood of 340hp would be a serious threat and outperform its older sibling, the 911. Known for being lean and well balanced, a Cayman Turbo would absolutely cannibalize 911 sales and Porsche knows it. According to BTG, privateer teams last year who were using the Cayman were suddenly upgraded to, “money-can't-buy factory-backed RSR 911s.”

It seems to have mismatched wheels, they should do that in production. A Turbo Cayman would be pretty cool, I'd ditch the C2S for one, definitely.

Needs an LSD to be a serious contender IMO

SC Caymans are making now with some little extras 500 HP, 340 HP sounds very low

I was about to say, without an LSD that thing would be pointless.

Have to agree with you Sean, it just will not be as good as its potential.

Given the price range it will probably fit in, I can't see many choosing the Cayman Turbo over the iconic 911 Carrera which won't be too much more expensive if similarly optioned.

Is this Porsche's answer to the new M3 and C63AMG? Will it replace the Cayman S? How is there room for three Caymans inbetween the Boxster S and Carrera?

Wasn't it basically concluded that even a non-turbo Cayman with an LSD would be significantly faster than a 911 around a track? A turbo Cayman w/an LSD would deystroy a 911.

IIRC it was on the Top Gear review of the car. That the car was intentionally held back by Porsche so it wouldn't mess with the product line and dethrown the 911. The Stig said it would've been like 4 seconds faster around the track with an LSD or something, which would post a significantly faster time than the 911.

Drr... just found the review. See for yourself!
