987 S mods and warranty
I'm curious what issues (good/bad?) you all might have had with Porsche dealers after you've done mods (of any kind) Engine / exhaust, etc...
I have an '08-S coming in a couple weeks and would like to bump the hp through ecu and exhaust mods, but am concerned about warranty issues.
Porsche short shifter
(anyone add this after and can give opinions on the differences they felt)?
Engine (ecu? other?)
any suggestions of which you recommend? are these always detectable if ever is was brought back to stock specs if they needed to be removed?
Exhaust
really do NOT want anything loud? as close to stock sound as possible...
suggestions?
anything else you recommend??
But my main concern is what can I modify and not be worried about warranty issues? probably not much huh? I'd be interested in hearing your experiences and suggestions...
Thank you!

My younger brother has the Boxster S, he did Fabspeed exhaust, FVD air intake, chip not sure the company, h&r springs, bbs LM 19" wheels black, and I think techart rear wing. The only problem he has had is the o2 sensor went off after he installed the new air intake, he replaced the sensor and the car is fine, no warranty issues with the dealers.
I can tell you the Boxster S runs strong with those minor mods, he brought it on the Players Run a couple years back from NY to LA and I had a 360 spider. At one point we ran straight out and I couldn't loose him until 160 or so when I started to pull away.

nice...thanks for the reply..
I guess its just a gamble with the dealership. If something serious happens...they can then always blame your fault due to messing with the engine, exhaust...etc..
what year is the boxster S?
Take care...

simple answer is that it depends on your relationship with the dealer... most dealers frown on modifications to the ECU, intake, exhaust, and/or suspension... some dealers will warranty only stuff that has not been effected by the modifications... Some dealers will void your warranty and "black flag" you with PCNA.... thats not good...
As far as getting more out of your engine... the new 987S's 3.4 is capable of around 100HP/liter after significant modifications (ECU, intake, FULL exhaust [headers->back], and plenum). As far as ECU tuning... most is done with flashes... so it can be undetectably returned to normal. PSE, fabspeed, capristo are your best bets for stockish sounding exhausts... Most of everyone loves the SSK
You have two options with mods and your dealer... ask them up front OR try to hide them... the later would or may require installing multiple times...

Modifications are great and I cant leave any car stock, it jus depends on your dealership and your relationship with the service manager or employee if they know you for many years they might let you go with some light stuff like mufflers, air intake system but major upgrades such as forced induction arent allowed.

Thanks for the feedback...good advice regarding asking the dealership. I hear from many folks (porsche specialist too) that even ECU flashes (anykind) are tracable even if returned to normal. They are embedded in the engine software and if ever porsche did an anaylisis on the car it is always there. I guess the reason they would be looking was in case some serious engine problem occurred.
By the way... what is "plenum" and what is "SSK"?
THANK YOU!
