VIDEO: Bentley teases its new V8 engine

Bentley teases its new V8 engine

Bentley has been synonymous with V8s for decades, and while the flagship Bentleys have featured eight cylinders, its most profitable model, the Continental GT has made do with a twin-turbo twelve cylinder.

All that is set to change next year, with the introduction of a V8-powered Continental range. With a displacement of 4.0-litres, the new V8 will certainly enhance the emotional appeal of the Continental, with a stirring soundtrack. While the W12 is a bullet-proof motor and has plenty of mumbo, a V8 will always sound better. Or will it?....

Bentley has given us a first look (or rather, sound) at its new Continental GT V8 with this teaser video which shows a test driver desperate to get behind the wheel. It certainly fits the Bentley ethos aurally.

While final details on its method of induction (it almost certainly will be turbocharged), its power and torque figures and fuel consumption are all to be revealed, it seems safe to assume that despite losing four cylinders, the Continental GT V8 will still provide sufficient motivation to keep Bentley owners happy.

im a little sad to see the w12 go.
i mean how could they possibly get the hp/torque figures close to a 6 liter W-12 twin turbo ?

They are not replacing the W-12, just adding the 8 to the lineup. So more budget or players in making can get it.
