He was already out when that happened. My guess is that when he hit the water he had a flame out and forgot to shut down and it some how restarted on it's own with the fuel still on.

Yeah, apparently there was no indication of emergency braking and no evidence of hard braking at all.

Oh wow, I skipped the end of the boat rescue. I didn't see when he got out.

I thought, "what a crazy SOB!"

According to the NTSB report, one throttle was in cutoff, one was in idle and bent. If he didn't cut the electrics, the engine still had ignition and fuel, so my guess would be it did indeed flame out and auto-restarted, either by design of the engine control or a water induced short. I don't think those jets have a FADEC or similar, but who knows.

Quite a lot of thrust for an idle condition, but, hey.
