as someone who thinks combat planes are super-cool, yet has no idea about any of them, if possible please post a little description about when they were used, what they were used for etc.

F-86 (US) fought in Korea against the Mig 15 (Soviet Union). It was armed with six .50 caliber machine guns.

The F-14 was featured in Top Gun. It was the Navy's primary interceptor for a while. It had the ability to shoot down enemy aircraft at about 100 miles away with its Phoenix missiles. It was also armed with one 20mm cannon. (Feel free to add more Jon).
