2015 Super Trofeo race car will be based on Cabrera


The current Blancpain Super Trofeo race car will be used for the 2014 season too, however for the 2015 season a brand new race car will be developed.



The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series has been running on three continents since 2013, in Europe, in the United States and in Asia using the new 2013 specs car based on the styling seen in Paris back in 2012 on the Gallardo LP560-4 with the triangular styling on the front bumper and the rear section ... all heavily modified into the pure bred race car we've been able to admire this year.

Squadra Corse, the department within Automobili Lamborghini SpA that handles the racing section of the Raging Bull make has already confirmed there will also be a Super Trofeo series in 2014 ... using the same car in fact, still using the V10 engine with 570hp output making this one of the fastest single make racing series in the world.

But we all know the Gallardo will be succeeded by a brand new model very soon now, people are hoping to see a glimpse of at least a concept at the upcoming IAA in Frankfurt in a few weeks, but more likely we'll have to wait for the March 2014 Geneva Auto Show to see a brand new Lamborghini V10 model to replace the decade old Gallardo.

If the new car, which might be called Cabrera, does get introduced in March 2014 you might not be seeing any deliveries until at least the Summer of 2014 ... this also means there are no more Gallardo built, so the basis of the Blancpain Super Trofeo car will no longer be available.

During a recent interview Cristiano Inverni, coordinator of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia Series, he confirmed they will continue racing the V10 Lamborghini for the 2015 season ... but it will be a totally different car, based on the new model naturally.

The track prepared Cabrera Super Trofeo will most likely be unveiled at the end of the 2014 season, probably at the final race where the champions from the European, Asian and United States series compete against each other to determine the overall Super Trofeo Champion ... a perfect timing to show what these pilots will be racing the following year.

Probably showing a very aggressive styling (which I've tried to give an impression on with the mockup I've put together) while being lighter than the street version and with a V10 tuned to a higher power output it will still have to meet the new Euro 6 emission standards ... if the rumors are correct the regular Lamborghini Cabrera should be pushing close to 600hp ... a Super Trofeo version will most likely increase this to nearly 650hp.
