Top Gear: Lamborghini Aventador

Yeah? Then what's with the recycled '03 Gallardo mirrors? Jesus Christ.

Yeah, I feel you. But looking at the design of the car and windows, it's hard to fit Murcielago/Reventon side mirrors. Those just stick out the sides. But if you look, the window tends to go pretty low, so those types of side mirrors would be too low for driver/passenger, so if they wanted to keep that design, they needed the side views that stick up in the air higher to reach eye level of the driver, which is what they used. The fact that it's identical to Gallardo's side view, is meh. They could of at least changed it a little lol.

However, the more I look at the car the more it makes sense. If you examine the design of the Aventador closely many of its elements are reminiscent of past Lamborghini models. I can def. see some Diablo and Countach in the rear, the overall shape is undeniably Murcielago, lots of Reventon and Estoque cues, and then there's the Gallardo side mirros I guess haha.
Lamborghini never said anything but this is def. intentional.

I completely understand what Hammond is talking about…
It is like driving a 360CS and then a F458, the Italia is a much better engineered car, better built, better feel, faster around corners etc. but you cannot help feeling there is something missing...
Where did that chromosome go?

He's basically saying it's too perfect lol. The grip, acceleration, handling, top speed, looks, etc. is all 10/10. And it's too easy to drive, almost anyone can drive it well. So I guess he's just saying the Lamborghini factor itself, is missing. Before it was either too wide, or bad A/C, or the clutch on the 6 speed, or whatever, now it's too perfect and it seems like it's doing everything for you, you just sit in the seat and go along for the ride.

Lamborghini have acheived what they wanted to with the Aventador, Harry Metcalfe in his piece in Evo magazine said he thought it was probably the best "supersports" car available today. That was the aim with this car, it is just unfortunate that to acheive this Lamborghini have bred out some of what we all take for granted as being a typical Lamborghini.
