I think they could have done something better as well...

It's all because of weight saving I guess. I prefer some ugliness which is only visible when driving above a certain speed to unnecessary weight.

the Veyron doesn't look so pretty under the skin. I got to say, good laminar flow, at 250 mph, wind would rip the end of the car right off, if turbulence ever got in there

True about the exposed bits with the wing up. BUT....you're probably rolling out when the wing is up, and making it look pretty would add extra weight (even if it were carbon), clutter and would further block heat from escaping the engine compartment. I love how the wing kills two birds with one stone; downforce and ventilation.
