Question regarding matt paint.

^That was probably a protective wrap.
Mo, are you sure all mfg's matte paint is the same? I recall reading about special care instructions for matte cars. Not sure about other mfg's but I know BMW says you can't take a Frozen Grey car through an auto wash.

You cant take it to an auto wash, there is special wax for it and no polishing whatsoever.

Pretty bad picture, but this was at ADV.1 the other day, a Gallardo with factory Matte Black paint. I can't say I touched it but the quality appeared to be amazing. Seemed to be very "smooth" finish... almost looked like satin in the light.

I have seen and touched a Matt Black LP640.
Here are my 1st impressions:
It look AMAZING!!! The feel is kind of tough to describe. It feels smooth but does not feel smooth in the same way as a car with a glossy clear coat does. I guess what I am trying to say is that it feels smooth but doesnt have that glassy like feel that a non matte car does.
As far as maintaining it I have heard a bunch of different things from different people. I am not at all an expert on paint car but heres what I have heard:
You should not wax it, you should not use soap for the car that contains any kind of quick wax components or anything like that, which most car soaps these days contain. Also I have heard from some people you are better off uses diluted baby shampoo to clean it rather than car soap.
I think the biggest deciding factor on weather or not to choose paint is what kind of use is the car going to experience? And by this i mean is it going to be a daily driver? or is it going to just be used a few times a month or on weekends? The reason I ask this is because from what I have heard from some people (BMW being one of them) matte paint is a little more "delicate" than regular paint. They say its not a great idea to put through a car wash because just about al car washes use some kind of wax components in their soap and or other products. Also I have heard its more prone to damage/discoloration from acid rain, bugs, road salt, and all the other contaminants that a cars paint in typically exposed to.
I'm not sure if there is any kind of clear bra offered that can be applied to matte paint or how it would look. But if their is I would definately look into it. That way you have the look of matte paint without all of the hassel. I know that there is matte vinyl that you can put on your car but that covers whatever paint is on the car. Also I have personally seen cars that are matte painted versus matte vinyld and the paint looks much nicer. I also know that there is a special kind of clear film that you can put over any existing paint on the car that will give the color already on a car a matte appearance. However I have never actually seen this up close so i don't know how it looks compared to actual matte paint.
The decision is up to you but personally, as much as I love the appearance of matte paint I dont know that I could ever own a car with matte paint.

dillon! Thank you so much for details!
I use cars 2-3 times a week. Once I fire it up, I drive 100-200km each time. Most of the drive is on highway doing above 250km/h.
So my major concern is that the paint will withstand those high speed environment. You know, it collects every dirt, rock and bugs at those speed.
I kinda saw the potential of matt paint on Lp700, and so I wanted it in matt white but I am afraid now.
I also never heard of clear bra for matt paint. If one put clear bra on matt, then there is no point of matt from that point on.
One more thing is repainting. If serious damage occur like big rock chips or dent, it will not be as easy as normal paint.
I am now concerning estoque grey at the same time.
Any more advise will be much appriciated.

As far as the clear bra goes, a normal clear bra like you said would obviously not work because it would give the matte finish a weird glossy like appearance. I could be wrong but I thought I heard somewhere that their is a special kind of clear bra that is meant for matte paints but I could be wrong. Maybe someone on here could shed some light on that.
As far as repairing it I am pretty sure it is more challenging to repair matte paint. That being said as long as you have a very good body shop it is not really an issue. For example Martino's which is one of the sponsors on this forum does fantastic work and has custom painted many cars matte finish.
Hope this helps, and I am sure either way the car will look great!
