Officially Official! Geneva 2010: Lamborghini Gallardo 570-4 Superleggera

I guess I'm in a minority here. I had the pleasure of seeing the car at the factory in January, and whilst it is undoubtedly a beautiful creature, it isn't exactly ground breaking. I am a huge Lambo fan but I came away feeling disappointed in them. I don't want to dismiss the efforts of their talented engineers and designers, but really, is this it? New bodykit, wheels, exhaust, ECU tweaks, new seats, and some weight saving? The competition in this segment is leaving the Gallardo behind. In many ways the Balboni was a greater evolution of the LP560, also aimed at driving dynamics, and even this has not been a sales success. If the SL had featured something genuinely new, unique to the car, a step change in the way the Scuderia was vs the base 430, it would have had the mouth to go with the trousers IMO. A new double clutch gearbox, as an intro to what must surely have to come for the next gen Gallardo? Adaptive suspension (in this day and age a button that makes shifts quicker and improves throttle response is hardly cutting edge).
I don't mean to sound churlish - it is of course stunning to look at. Wonder how it will sell?

Good points Andrew. I have same feelings. From one side it is really stunning, it looks amazing, it will perform amazing. But same feeling about technical progress and Gallardo, it is outdated as for now, competition is moving forward at a very fast pace and even their latest creation have no modern features each supercar in this price segment must have this decade.
I have only one explanation to this - it is Murcielago line, it is still on the run and there is no way for little brother being faster than big brother, or the Lamborghini's latest and greatest introduced on the G-line before the flagship. To introduce all those features on LP570-4 SL means to make much more lower WOW effect from Murcielago successor, this means - before Murcielago successor will arrive any major upgrades are not expected at all. LP570-4 SL will be the last irretation of current Gallardo, LP590-2 SV developement work was cancelled, so expect Gallardo successor to appear quicker than expected previously.
So, first truly next generation Lamborghini with all the changes we all are waiting hard for will be Murcielago successor with all latest and greatest "cutting edge" technologies, hopefully. Then we will see all-new Gallardo successor, also with all those changes everyone wants to see. Expect more than just few kilos less and few hp more on Gallardo successor, it will be absolutely new car built from the clean sheet of paper.

Like the new front intake spoiler and the wheels, although I feel the same as fellow tsers about lamborghini releasing one too many gallardo editions and plus was expecting to see a huge change with the new SL. Oh well, hopefully the next lambo editions would be much different.

I have to agree with you as well Andrew. Maybe some of the WOW factor was also gone for me (and others on this forum) since we had seen such good renderings of the car about 1-2 months ago. Anyway, it's definitely a real looker and full of passion and brutal power. Just the techinical highlight, as you mentioned, isn't really there. Obviously D55L has pointed out the reasons and it makes perfect sense for Lamborghini. Also I think enough customers are gonna overlook this small flaw and I'm sure most of them will be happy with their purchase either way.
As for me, I'd go with the Italia...

i saw the car during the preview in singapore. i hate the old SL spoiler. im not sure if i wanna trade in my current SL for this. interior looks the same as the old car too.
it doesnt kick me like the 458 does. the 458 is revolutionary. the SL is evolutionary.
hving said that....the numbers smashes the 458 all the way to top speed. during the launch, they told us 0-100 in 3.5....they have obviously revised that. wonder what thats about.

You got it wrong, it's 70kg lighter which is 154lb. Still could be more but considering it has more power I guess they are forgiven.
