Lambo Ankonian: Possible new Batmobile?

gulfnews : Lamborghini's Dark Knight

Batman likes his cars jet powered, so do you think he'd have a problem with having to downsize a bit for his next Batmobile?
Well, not if Bruce Wayne was presented with the Lamborghini Ankonian design study.

And if Slavche Tanevski, the talent behind the hardcore/underground/rock inspired lines on these pages, has his way, Lamborghini will be downsizing in the near future.

"The first project I did at design school was sponsored by Lamborghini. The theme was ‘raw material' and we were supposed to design Lambo's next supercar," said Tanevski, the 21-year old Macedonian design student who has also worked on sponsored projects for Mini, Volkswagen, Mercedes and BMW.
For his latest Lamborghini concept, he followed the tradition of naming the cars after bulls. "Ankonian is a type of bull known for its black hair," Tanevski told wheels. So it's not hard to put two and two together and understand why this Lambo is painted the blackest black ever.

"My theme gives the car a feeling of mystique. The intention was to design a car that polarises. Something that is completely different from the competition. That's why it's extreme, almost not acceptable. Either you love it or hate it," explained Tanevski.

What's more, the Ankonian wasn't just a way to kill time during the winter weekends in Munich, where he studies. Tanevski's project had input from Lamborghini's chief designer Filippo Perin, who chose the Ankonian as one of the top three designs presented.

Designers from Lamborghini and its parent company Audi even helped with the clay model, giving tips on how to make the car more professional and attractive.

"It means they really liked it, despite its extremes, and I'm really happy that they are open to non-conventional designs," said Tanevski. "Everyone thought it was the new Batmobile! The reactions were great, but you can't expect everyone to like your design, especially one as extreme as this. Yes, the car is not a beauty, but it's different. My point was to make a provocative car."
As for the downsizing bit, well, Tanevski likes to think Lamborghini would take it down a notch if it were to build the Ankonian.

"The powerplant was not in my design brief, but I would suggest a V10, or two smaller engines. Why not? One powering the front axle, and the other one the rear wheels. That's how I would keep the tradition of Lamborghinis having all-wheel drive and a better weight balance. Also, a bio-diesel is not taboo for supercars anymore," said Tanevski.

Despite hard times hitting the industry, we see a bright future for the young Macedonian, especially if he continues to come up with radical designs like the Ankonian.

"I hope to stay in Germany, it's car design heaven. I worked for Mini Design as a student designer for nine months and I'm currently doing my internship at Mercedes-Benz Design, so something similar wouldn't be bad after my studies."

He has a year left to finish university, after which Bruce Wayne should definitely look him up.
