I drove the LP550-2 Balboni today. It was interesting...
The guys at Lamborghini of Atlanta were kind enough to let me take their new LP55-2 out for a spin. I was really curious to see how it would compare to my Super G since I've heard nothing but rave reviews about it. I didn't get to put too many miles on it and since it wasn't my car I didn't push it as hard as I wanted to but I got a pretty good feel for it.
Interior: I know I'm biased and it varies from car to car but this one had almost no carbon fiber it in. At first I thought the leather/stripe stitching was really cool but then I started to miss the alcantara. The buttons on the dash are sturdier than the previous G and there is less cabin noise than my car. Oh, and these cars have actual door handles where I have a CF/Alcantara strap.
Suspension: in normal mode I could tell within the first block that the suspension was much softer than my SL. Soft to the point that I pictured my wife driving it and enjoying it. We pressed Corsa mode at the end but I couldn't tell if it had a difference or not.
RWD vs AWD: Big difference. You can get sideways with little effort in this car if you really wanted to. When you accelerate hard it feels like someone is behind you pushing you in the back REALLY hard. I haven't made up my mind on whether or not I prefer one over the other but it is definitely more exciting to drive especially if you have the balls to turn the traction control off.
Acceleration: Yep, this car is faster than the SL. I would have loved to do a side by side race to see the difference. I wonder how it would compare on the fwy from a roll. The most notable difference is in the low end torque. The second your foot hits the pedal you can feel the instant power waiting to be unleashed. There is a little bit of lag in the SL.
I wish I had more time to drive it but these were the things that stuck out to me. As I headed to the dealership I had secret thoughts of trading in the SL down the road for the LP560 or LP550. Not going to happen esp. if it's going to cost me more money. I would even have a hard time doing an even trade.
The Superleggera, although less powerful is raw in every aspect. The word 'visceral' comes to mind. Stiffer suspension, louder exhaust, loud/angry downshifts, and interior/exterior styling that makes you fee like you're in a racecar. Not everyone wants this type of experience so the LP560/550's would be a great choice.
Sorry for the crappy phone pic but you get the idea.

Nice read. Must have been a nice day! If you did trade in your SL for a LP550-2 i wouldn't blame you, but i think not trading it in would be the better option. As you said Stiffer suspension, louder exhaust, loud/angry downshifts, and interior/exterior styling that makes you fee like you're in a racecar adds up to an awesome car

and Id rather by in alcantara and carbon fiber than leather
