I saw a request in another thread for some build photos of a start to finish twin turbo upgrade. This Superleggera belongs to Alex at SP Engineering which will be our west coast dealer / installer.
We wanted to go about this build in a very scientific manner. It seemed to be a god idea to document the differences between the Superleggera and a standard Gallardo so the first thing we did was weigh the car.

It seems that the Superleggera is around two hundred pounds lighter than a standard Gallardo!

The next thing we did was dyno the car to see if it made any more power than usual. It does! It seems that this car makes another twenty five or so to the wheels.

Then it was time to start disassembling it.

I will also get going on some pictures of the turbo system itself being built as well as the engine as it goes along.

Sorry for the delay guys. Ths should keep you entertained for a bit.
The engine build:
As usual, the engine was bored out and had steel cylinder liners installed as well as a set of Carrillo connecting rods and CP pistons. All of these parts are proprietary to Heffner Performance. Below are pictures to show the differences between the stock rods and pistons and the Heffner / Carrillo rods and the Heffner / CP pistons:

As well as adding significant strength to the rotating assembly this combination also lowers the compression ratio to get it ready to handle lots of boost.

Once this is done the engine is completely reassembled and installed in the car.

The turbo system:
The turbo system for the most part starts out as high quality stainless steel mandrel bent tubing.

The mandrel bends are then cut, sanded, fit into a fixture and welded together to make the parts.

All parts are TIG welded and filled with argon gas during the welding process which is known as purge welding. Purging the pipes makes a nice looking, strong weld inside and out.

Once the parts are all welded together they get sent out for different treatments.
The cold side piping can be either polished or powdercoated:
The hot side parts are ceramic coated. They can be done in a number of colors. The shiny silver finish is the most common but for this car we decided to do something a little different.

We thought the black finish might suit this car a bit better because it looks a bit more "race car".

Well, the car is complete and on it's way back to California. We had hoped to get this beast to the drag strip before it left but the continuous terrential Florida summer downpours would not allow it. Here is a shot of the completed engine compartment. Alex is in the process of making carbon fiber engine compartment panels for the Superleggera now.

The black finish is the perfect compliment to the Superleggera in my opinion.
We made a few preliminary pulls and then decided to see what it would make on 20 pounds of boost.

Everyone was pretty happy to see this so we unstrapped it and headed out for a drive. This thing is incredibly fun!

We'll stay on Alex to get us some video of this monster in action once it gets home. Thanks for the interest in this build. I hope this was able to provide some useful information.

I've yet to see one on a road course so until then I'm not sure that is his best option. TT setups are great for top speed runs but until we see them on a track I'll reserve judgement. I'm very curious though.
GPB, I did the Swift springs to my SL and it helped tighten the car up in the turns. It also allows you to lower the car more than the stock coils. So far it seems adequate but I'll know for sure this weekend on the big track at Daytona. For tuning, EVOMSit, DMS and MHP seem to all give about 20-30hp more. Doesn't EDO Competition also tune the ECU as part of their package?

Thank you all for the advices.
I have a lot of respect for Heffner and UR work, but similar to Ron I have some reservations. I have weekly fast drives and I wonder how long would the Lambo last.
Apart from the fact that in Singapore nobody is an authorized dealer, I wonder what I would do in a couple of years when the car will be up for inspection.
My mechanic is recommending to go for DIMEX JotaBull instead of DMS or EDO.

I would never look past EVOMS for software, but that's just me. Combined with your intake, and perhaps some Larini sport cats and Larini/LOC exhaust, and some lighter wheels, you might be maxed out for an NA SL. Wheels and exhaust can easily drop 60+lbs, and combined you should be close to 30hp gain to 560. Would probably match a stock LP560, but maybe not a modified one.

There are a couple of tuners in Europe doing ported & polished heads, new cams, etc. but costs big $$$$. They claim about 610HP. I'm doing the LOC exhaust and EVOMSit software and calling it a day. I'll be curious to see your results GPB. Good luck!

Got a link for the guys in europe?
