Reventon Roadster in the Flesh @ IAA

I am going to repeat what I said on another thread.
Sorry to put a downer on this but the Reventon is just a cynical marketing scam. Yes the car is very dramatic but personally I am not a great fan of its looks but that’s not the point. The thing that gets me is you are paying in the UK over £700,000 over and above the cost of a 670 which already cost over £300k for what is effectively a body kit.
From an infrastructure or dynamic point of view this car does not bring anything new to the party, it is standard 670 underneath. Even if they are only building 15 of these things that does not justify the ridiculas cost. The accountants at Lambo must be laughing all the way to the bank because they have got away with the same trick twice.
As was seen with the coupe a number of the original 20 were bought by speculators looking for a quick profit, thankfully most of those got their fingers burned; it will be interesting see what happens this time.
Personally I think Lambo should be concentrating on the Murci replacement which we should see next year, lets hope it’s a great car.

very hard on the Murci replacement, personally, I hope they do really well
on the Reventon Roadster !
But I read a claim on another forum that these cars are more like individual
concept cars and thus at least 1 million a pop.
The tone of your post (a cynical maketing scam, the car brings nothing new,
accountants must be laughing at their customers, got away with the trick twice) sounds more cynical to me.
Most of us won't be able to buy this car. We just think its beautiful,
and we're looking forward to seeing it sometime.

I can confirm that developing absolutely bespoke car body is a very hard and pricey process. It is used to think that it is just rebodied Murcielago, but very few can imagine what really this process costs. The Reventon Roadster is not just Reventon with no roof, it is different concept. The cost of developing both of them are much higher that we used to think they are. Of course there is a profit margin, but is way lower than everyone would expect.
If I want to get hardcore supercar I would go with LP670-4 SV and will be happy, but if I have enough money and I want piece of an automotive art I would go with Reventon Roadster. This car has an astonishing performance combined with even more astonishing presence. There are only two such cars in the whole worlds - Reventon Roadster and Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster.
All supercar makers want to be profitable and to raise funds for future models developement. For example, the cost of developing Zonda F or Zonda F Roadster for Pagani factory was way below EUR 400K and price of the car was much higher, but no one screamed that it is bad just because everyone, customers included, understood that it is normal business process and they are not charity fund, but a car maker. They need funds for salaries, need funds for Pagani C9 developement, need funds for new factory building - so they are launching Cinque version and few one-offs for more profit and the Cinque developement was way cheaper than developing a Reventon.

Hang on Lamborghini are a company like any other and the only objective is to make money.
So if they can manage to keep the company in profit by managing to find 15 people to buy these cars and so net a quick €15m good for them
