Wondering if the LP you refer to had the sport package or the other one (luxury, touring, base, whatever it's called)?

 

There is Comfort and Sport Packages for the LP560's. The main difference between the two is the suspension and the seating. The Comfort Package comes with softer shocks, more padding in the seats where as the Sport Package gives you Suede Sport Steering Wheel and a Sport Chassis/Sport Shock absorbers. Transmission is exactly the same including how the shifting works.

Having driven both, the sport setup is quite a bit harder on the ride but not to the point where it's Superleggera tight. I do agree it's S-class smooth when it comes to how the transmission shifts .
