It was conceived as a successor for the highly successful Porsche 356 and from the start had high aspirations for success. Ferry Porsche's son, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, designed the 911. The Porsche 997 is the internal designation for the Porsche 911 sports car manufactured and sold between 2004 (as Model Year 2005) and 2012.
