Spied: 2013 Jaguar XE
The New E-Type getting ready to take on the world

Our Teamspeed spies bring us today some of the first spy shots available of the upcoming 2013 Jaguar XE - the British marque's new compact, two-seater sports car based on the XK model which will compete against the like of the Porsche 911.

This prototype mule is riding on a shortened chassis and body of the XK. The XE will be offered as both a coupe and cabriolet model, and it's a cabrio we've spotted here today. Details are still sketchy on the XE, but we expect it to be a two-seater and priced competitively with the Porsche 911, the model it aims to compete against.

Given the long Jaguar nose, it will sport a mid-front engine mounting for performance handling. The XE is also expected to be fitted with a V6 engine in at least two configurations, one naturally-aspirated and one supercharged. Output levels will be competitive with Cayman and 911 models. It's like a shrunken XK....I'm not sure about this one.

 

I'm not sure if I like it either. Something about it just doesn't seem right. Maybe I will like it more when I see a more production quality car.

 

This is just a test mule guys. Chopped up XK bodywork covering the proper XE chassis and drivetrain.

The XE will have it's own look.

 

Imagine that. It looks like every other Jaguar ever made.

If it's a 2-seater and a few hundred pounds lighter than the XK, this will be a beauty! I hope they make an R version with some decent grunt.
