I love the doors.
I'll tell you something funny about that. I did each and every modification on the car before I got the doors. Spent a small fortune too. Then I would take the car to various car shows and meets. People would notice that it was an SLK but never really took the time to see all of the unique customizations I had made. It never got into the magazines or on the web. Then I got the doors. They were one of the least expensive mods I did, didn't give me any type of performance boost (in fact, they are heavier so they probably hurt performance), and always sparked bitter debate. But all of the sudden, my little red B55 started getting noticed. Suddenly, everyone wanted to know everything I had done to the car. It got into 2 major magazines and it was all over the web. In fact, today when I take the B55 and the 997TT to car shows and meets together, nearly all of the attention is paid to the B55. I pull up and everyone thinks that it is just another SLK. Then I raise the doors and it always brings a smile to people's face and they come over and want to know about the car. I agree that they might not be for everyone. But there is no denying the attention that the doors bring to the car. And if it gets people interested in the car and then the other mods I have done, then it can't be all bad.
Here is a vid of my cars at the Cars & Coffee meet in June together: http://downforce.smugmug.com/gallery...164_UU2WP-A-LB.
After this trip I checked the various car spotting blogs and websites for pics. Not a single pic of my 550 hp 997TT that would smoke my B55. But literally hundreds of shots of the B55. Go figure.
The nice thing about the door application I used is that you don't have to raise the door unless you want to. The doors open out far enough to get in and out without lifing them upwards. Also, it is a full bolt-on application which can be put back to stock simply and easily.
Very few cars can pull off the vert doors. I think the SLK is one of them.

I've seen this SLK in person and it's even more amazing than the pictures. It sounds mean and looks damn sexy. Awsome combo. The icing on the cake is....Barrister's wife drives it as her daily...should I tell them what you drive as a daily?
