Drove a friend's SL65 Black yesterday
I had a chance to take this beast for a quick spin yesterday. I believe it belonged to member AWG's father before my friend bought it. Here are my impressions:
Looks: Very aggressive. Very wide and low with sharp edges. I wasn't sure when he told me about the matte red until I saw it. Still not sure I'd have ordered one in that color but I thought it added to the aggressiveness of the car. The Interior was pretty much what you would expect from an AMG and the seats were a bit more comfortable than you would expect.
Ride Quality: Not as hard as I had imagined. Compared to the 997.1 GT3 I used to own this was a much more supple ride. The main problem i saw that would have otherwise made this a potential daily driver was how low it sat (scraped the lip on speed bumps twice in 20 mins!). I honestly don't know however (nor does my friend!) if the car had been lowered.
Power: I was least impressed here. Not because of lack of power, on the contrary, there seemed to be too much of it if there is such a thing! The car wanted to spin the wheels every time the turbo's kicked in only to have traction control kill the fun. The power surge when the car opened up was a bit scary IMHO.
Couldn't really say much on the handling front as it was too short a ride and on public roads but it seemed way too heavy for a track oriented car.
Conclusion: I would get something else for that kind of money.

whoa i love it, more pics please! cool write up, interesting on the ride quality and seats
funny you should say that about power, just the other day i wrote a post about the SL55 being too fast to be a daily driver. so i cannot imagine dailying any SL65 let alone a black series
btw does an SL65 Black go for what an SLR does?
