W211 E55 reliability?

I went and looked at a 2004 yesterday with a tad under 60K on it. I was wondering what the reliability is on these. Also, what to look for on them.

Thanks in advance guys!

what are repair costs like? Suspension gives you an excuse to upgrade. Is it just shocks and springs or is there bushing failure?

Those cars have air suspension, so if a shock fails, it's fairly expensive to replace. I had an '06, great car, lots of fun to drive, but I was scared to keep it out of warranty.

If I were you I would be looking at the 05-06. Tighter stearing, less issues and better equipped then the 03-04's. Get a warranty on the car, I bought mine as a CPO car. They are a little more out the door, but deffinitely worth the extra money. Good luck on what ever you decide.

Make sure you get a warranty. Air shock replacement is $2K per shock at the dealership (parts and labor). Also, SBC is notorious for having problems in the 04 models. The SBC alone (just parts) is $4K. Keyless-go is also a problem area. Not as expensive to fix as the issues that I listed above, but it is still a pain.

This man speaks the truth. ^^^^

The airamatic suspension can be expensive; better off getting one that is CPO from an authorized dealer. You'll pay more initially, but lose suspension or worse- pop a motor and you'll be thanking your lucky stars you bought it that way.

Thanks guys. I'll look for newer ones. Then there is the debate. M5 vs e55. I wish the Amg wagons were more available. Would make the decision easy.
