Spied: 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL 55 AMG
Mercedes-Benz drops the brand-new naturally-aspirated 5.5-litre V8 in the SL

The regular 2012 Mercedes SL has been spotted with a lot less disguise than these pictures show. Today, however, our Teamspeed spies caught another set of pictures of the hot AMG version somewhere near Germany’s challenging Nürburgring: The SL 55 AMG!

Yes, you’ve read right: The new top-of-the-range will be named 55 AMG and will feature Mercedes’ brand-new naturally-aspirated 5.5-litre V8. It is the same new engine, that will be used for yet more powerful 63 AMG-models, then equipped with two turbochargers.

The current 6.2-litre engine used for the 63 AMG models of the past will slowly die. The quad-tip exhaust, sportier wheels and tires and cross drilled brake rotors tell us this SL will wear the AMG badge. We can also see a deeper air inlet in the lower fascia. Stay tuned for more soon!

Why would it be called the 55 AMG? The current models with the 5.5L V8 TT are still called 63.

 

I think we're gonna see active rear spoiler.

 

Don't like it. The body lines are not aggressive. Doesn't look that good imo. I hope I'm wrong though.
