I am seriously considering an order for the sls next yr.... im just undecided whether i shud opt 4 the carbon ceramic brakes.. they seem very costly indeed..well i do plan to do track days.. wat do u guys think of the standard brakes

I doubt anyone here has driven one yet but I'd say you should get the ceramic brakes. Better to just get them now than not get them and wish you had them when you really need them at the track.

Get them, better resale value probably and they look great.

mmm hard choice, but in the long run i think the carbon ceramic ones will be worth the extra money

I bet 5 out of every 6 SLS will have Carbon Ceramics; if you dont you'll regret it come resale / trade in time. On a $200k+ car it seems silly to not get them.

Hi, I'm having the same issue you are. My car is being built in April. i did not order the ceramic brakes, when I found out the service for the brakes cost almost 30k from your dealer!!!! That on top of the $12k for the upgrade to start with. I was shocked to hear the first service call on the brakes will cost more than the upgrade cost. They also tell you that the brakes will squeal during normal driving. I can't imagine pulling up to a light and my brakes squeal. So, I'm really on the fence about the brakes, but at this point I think I'll skip the brake upgrade.

Ceramics don't squeal at all, only when it's cold at first. I have 3 cars with carbon ceramics and wish more of them had it as an option.

They last so long, that I don't think you should even think about when the time comes to replace them.

Keep in mind that under 'normal' use and not track use the rotors will last approximately 200k miles!

With Porsche clients who order the PCCB's I find that when they drive a car with the ceramics they don't want to drive a car w/o them anymore. Almost ZERO brake dust and I've not experienced any carbons that squeal.

If you want info on carbon brakes- ask the Porsche guys, not the MB guys. Unless they've owned a F car or Porsche, they won't be well versed in carbon ceramic brakes, and will offer silly advice.

On a 200k car, where carbon ceramics seem to be the normal- you WILL kick yourself when you don't get them.

I always thought 12k was a lot to not have to deal with breakdust, just keep some detail spray and rags in your trunk. Go to the porrsche gt thread because if you are worried about the track there are some guys/sponsers there who can give good advice. From the sounds of it most people don't like ceramics on the track. Plus, you could probably put a whole brembo carbon ceramic package in for less than 12k (I am guessing ) after market

Keep in mind Teutonic that clients who (generally) spend this sort on a car, its not always about the actual initial cost as it is about the resale value.

Last I checked a Brembo carbon ceramic kit costs upwards of $20k.
